Basalt rope structure
The rope structure of basalt is a rope-like twisted structure on the surface of the lava. This structure is commonly seen above the basalt flow layer. It is formed when the surface shell of the lava flow is affected by the lava flow flowing below. The rope structure represents the top surface of the lava. The thin surface shell of the upper surface of the lava in a hot plastic state is dragged and twisted by the flow of the lower magma. Therefore, the surface where the rope structure is located represents the top surface of the lava erupted once. The rope structure of lava is generally arc-shaped, and the top of the arc points to the flow direction, that is, it flows from the inside of the arc to the outside of the arc. Since the development of the rope structure is often affected by some local factors, it should be used with caution when judging the flow direction of the magma.

The rope structure of basalt is not only of great value in scientific research, but also receives a certain amount of attention in the field of ornamental stones due to its unique appearance and formation process. The formation process of this structure reflects the intensity of volcanic activity and the fluidity of magma, and is an important window for understanding the internal activities of the earth and volcanic activity.
