           Basalt fiber has better overall performance compared to E-type glass fiber. It has higher breaking strength and Young's modulus compared with glass fiber in the test of short-cut raw wire and coarse sand. At the same time, basalt fiber has the material advantages of UV resistance and electromagnetic radiation, which is conducive to the expansion of products in downstream applications. However, as the most widely used glass fiber species at present, E-type common glass fiber has a gap with basalt fiber in terms of performance. In addition, glass fiber has disadvantages in acid and alkali resistance and production gas emission, which is not conducive to the development of glass fiber.

       Taken together, basalt fiber and glass fiber have their own advantages. However, since the development of the glass fiber industry has a first-mover advantage, its application scale is larger and the field is broader. However, with the application of homogenization technology and large drawing leakage plate, the competitiveness of basalt fiber will be greatly enhanced, and it is expected to break the monopoly situation of glass fiber in the downstream application end as a challenger, so as to further seize the market share

          From the historical point of view, the United States, as an early country to carry out theoretical research related to basalt fiber, had given up the research of basalt fiber in 1970, and turned to invest more in the field of glass fiber, and successfully developed high-performance products such as S-2 glass fiber. At this stage, glass fiber has become a very mature fiber material that is used in all aspects of life, while the development of basalt fiber industry has still not ushered in a real explosive stage. Whether basalt fiber can be successfully popularized or even replace glass fiber in the downstream market in the future is still uncertain at the moment. However, considering the rapid development of basalt fiber at the technical level and the favorable policy, it is believed that the competitive pattern of the two fiber materials will be more clearly answered by the market feedback in the next few years.
